VEGAN
vegan breakfast food

At home I usually eat either cereal with rice milk, oatmeal, vegan waffles (Lifestream's Hemp ones are my favorite), CoCo Wheats (a childhood favorite), or just whole wheat toast w/ peanut butter and orange juice. Going out there are quite a few good options in Chicago.

Chicago Diner
Breakfast Biscuits-and-Hash Scrambler thing. Goddamn good. Also available with a nice "sausage" patty.
Chicago Diner
Vegan pancakes with apple topping and tempeh strips. They make good vegan wheat cakes at the diner.
Pauline's
Oatmeal w/ fruit and a side of potatoes. Not a big fan of this place but we go here monthly for work meetings.

This place is weird, and not too vegan-friendly. Best to call ahead to see if they have any vegan specials, or you may be SOL.
Pick Me Up Cafe
Vegan French Toast of the gods. They make it right here. It's super easy to make at home too, just french bread, soymilk, vanilla and flour.
Pick Me Up Cafe
They make an excellent tofu scramble, complete with tasty salsa and hearty bread on the side. Perfect every time.

This tofu scramble was okay, but had a strong, rich over-marinated taste. The vegan french toast was better.
Heartland Cafe
Another tofu scramble thing, this one with mushrooms and broccoli and stuff. So-so. Not impressed w/ this place.
I'm inexplicably missing a photo of Pick Me Up's great vegan pancakes, which I've had many times...will investigate and document.

more photos coming soon, I have to dig a bit to find them.
