2-02, Charlottesville, VA. Hand-painted beauty outside one of those Christian Science Reading Room places.	1999, downtown New Orleans. Nice sans serif 3-D type, probably 35 year old, but looks familiar from the popular designs of recent years.	1998. Niles, MI. Saw a bad movie here, but the price was right and it was a great small-town theater.

2001, Portsmouth, VA. Victory Lanes is a "duckpin" bowling alley of the finest sort. Classic through-and-through.	1998, pachinko parlor sign, Kyoto Japan. Says "Golden Bell Avant Garde." (goruden beru aban gyarudo).	10/01. Camped at Shenandoah Nat. Park in VA. Scenery & lettering = good, layout & weather = chaos.

Barrel found in my grandfather's garage, 1997. Striking colors and inline type.	2001, Norfolk. Lots of goddamned hot dog places around here, and I'll bet you none of them sell veggie-dogs.	2-02. Dixie, VA. Apparently the only thing in town except for a scattering of derelict trailers. Beautiful.	1998. Small town, rural Japan. This sign says "Coin Laundry" in characters made out of tape! It's really amazing.

This falls into the weird/evil type category. Wicked "L" on Charbroil. Northern MN or WI.	1999. New Orleans French Quarter. These plaques, made of tile, were historical markers. Note ligature.	12/01, NYC. On 2nd. Ave near 79th St., I think. See also this neighboring cleaners' sign.

10-01. Newport News, VA. Didn't quite know which category to put this in, but I'm sure glad it exists.	1998. Hand-painted/stencil sign advertising a lot for sale in a small town in rural Japan.	7/01, Nob Hill area of San Francisco. Nice palette and stencil work, especially the word "night." A designer's driveway maybe?
