RESUME
(3–D) or monumental signs

Striking silhouettes, impressive at any distance—standing underneath or speeding down the high-way.

NOTE: I haven't added new photos to this section of the site in a few years; with the purchase of a digital camera the quantity of sign photos got to be too overwhelming. I've started uploading sign photos to Flickr, click here to see my newer photos tagged with "monumental sign." See also my tags of "great typography" and "building as sign."

6/00. Somewhere in (West?) Virginia. Abandoned.
Minneapolis gem. I wonder if the interior lives up to that signage...don't know if anything could.
12/01. Virginia Beach, VA. Gorgeous shape, still works as silhouette even w/ awful plastic overlay.

1997. Lions Club very near my home in Paw Paw, MI, I saw this almost daily growing up.
1999. On the strip in Branson, MO. The whole goddamned building is a sign.
1997. Paw Paw, MI. Saw this constantly growing up. Now gone; replaced with poor vinyl imitation (featuring a graphic of this old sign!)

1998. St. Croix or Hudson, WI, (some river town around there). See also accompanying building.
1997. Sawyer, MI. Best and biggest truck stop in Michigan, a legend. This sign and those prices are gone.
1998. Niles, MI: Home of the French Paper Company. Did not eat here.
1997. Near Harlem St., Harwood Hts, IL. Ate here. Chicago through-and-through. Burned down a couple years later.
