Ugly mall-type complex, outskirts of Krakow. Street signage, Zabierzow. Some kind of a damned shed, Zabierzow. Easily one of the best altered signs, ever. Zabierzow.

Looks like something went afoul when laying the vinyl for this sign. Zabierzow hair-cuttery. Train tracks, Zabierzow. Warning on train platform, Zabierzow. Hours of Operation sign, Zabierzow.

Somebody advertising his wares or services, Zabierzow. Kasza and Magda, Ala's daughters. Zabierzow. The first shot (of many, you'll see) of one of the thousands of bus shelters in rural Poland. Great illustrations on a general store in the middle of nowhere.

Remains of a sock-merchant, right downtown (odd little building), Dynow. Irascible tricycle-driver and salon, Dynow. Sporting-goods shop's signage, Dynow. Another decent meal, this time the potatoes are mashed and there's a salad to add interest. Dynow.

City Hall signage, Dynow. "Brutal" cologne, in both Classic and Power forms. I picked up a bottle of this stuff, smells terrible. Souvenir for somebody... Homemade table saw at Gesziak and Stephania Trybalski's farm. These people are unblievably crafty and innovative; I also saw them fashion nice brooms out of bundles of twigs. Some of the flock, Trybalski's farm near Dynow.

Super-cute bunnies (and babies!) in barn at farm. More bunny cuteness. "Feedin' time." Another mean-ass motorcycle rig, this time on the farm. Chickens! So goddamn cute.

More chickens, this time in the barn. I was digging all these animals. Gesziak and Stephania's son's house, on the hill near their's. This was about an 8-second exposure at twilight. Inside that son's house after a hard day's work laying cement. Family and friends sharing laughs and stories, drinking homemade "rot-gut" moonshine, snacking on meats, breads, and pickles: a very Polish scene. Bad photo of interior painting in the church where my Aunt Lottie and Aunt Stella (grandma's sisters) were baptized, Lubnow.

Another crappy photo of painting/lettering in same church. Totally amazing color palette, composition, and lettering throughout. The whole interior was covered in these designs and the gorgeous lettering. I don't think I've ever been in a church that I liked to look at more than this one, if only for the colors alone.

I climbed way up a hill to get this shot of the land where my great-grandmother lived for a few years with her three daughters. Their old house is gone, but the countryside remains. Beautiful scene, good people here. Back in Dynow, walked around with a few teenagers (one of whom spoke some English!). I liked what was going on in this sign. A common sight in cities. Danger of electrocution. Totally wonderful sign. Some of the graduating class from Dynow. They finish high school at a later age than do Americans; some are over 20 (if I understood my guide correctly).

Grandma, Gesziak and Stephania shooting the bull around the table in their kitchen. Same as last, but with endearing look from Gesziak. Self-timer on camera got me in the picture too. Nice colors. Another posed-for shot with good saturation.

Scary shot of me as the Devil. No, actually the power went out while we were sitting around, so I took a few shots by candlelight. Grandma by candlelight. Cute little Polish car. Their cars tend to be quite compact, though I saw a very wide range of autos, from every country imaginable. Hired-hand come to cultivate the strawberries. Kind of like stepping back in time in a lot of ways here. Saw lots of horses used in agriculture and lots of old babcia's, some 80 years old, out cutting tall grass with scythes!

May blossoms, Trybalski's farm. Gas station near Dynow. The cemetaries were a sight to behold. Graves stacked-up close, with unbelievable lettering samples, flowers, and designs. Fake flowers reflect into this beautiful composition.

More WOW. Husband and wife. The old-time photos were a favorite; lots of graves employed them. Photo AND chrome plate. Mr. Moneybags. To give you an idea of the lay of the plots.
