Took a weekend trip up to Milwaukee to visit with Kurt and Vanessa and see the city. Rode the Metra (commuter rail) up to scenic Kenosha, (about 30 mins south of Milwaukee), where Vanessa picked me up. Got some vegan grub at "Beans-n-Barley" or something with a similarly attractive name and ate lunch at a park overlooking Lake Michigan. Stopped into the Milwaukee Art Institute to visit Kurt at work, took in their offerings, and did some driving around. Ate a nice dinner of Japanese food in the evening, watched Zoolander (very funny) and caught up. Had yummy waffles with Hip Whip and fruit and goodies the next morning, then did some antique shopping (got some nice printed matter), made pilgrimmage out to Menomonee Falls (thanks for humoring me) to check out the town that spawned American Movie geniuses Mark Borchardt and Mike Schank (surprisingly little to see there), did some more driving around, and went home Sunday night. Next time, I'm taking the Vespa up there (rain and wind forecasts prevented it this weekend). It was great to spend time with K and V and Scout and see a new city. Many thanks for the hospitality. Here are some pics, click to enlarge.

Too easy. More folk art from MIA.

I like the colors.

What an attractive family.
My gracious hosts.

Timmerman Field, where Borchardt went to do his writing. Another shot.

Vanessa knits in the back seat. "Knitting...and knitting...and knitting..."

Not exactly the "delapidated duplexes" I'd hoped for, but still something.

Nice corner store framed in car window

And they call AR people "extremists."
|

Old Style is king in these parts. I really like the cursive effect here.

Another easy shot, viva le Midwest.

Kenosha Metra station. Who'll be the first to turn this into a "grunge" font?
