Ryan Simonson and I drove from Minneapolis to South Dakota to visit my mom and her parents. This was before I had a digital camera, so the pictures are fewer. Also, they're not exactly in chronological order, but sort of close to it. We drove on Hwy 12 from Minneapolis all the way there. My mom lives 14 miles outside a town of a few hundred people, and it's awful damn borning out there. As of 11/04, I haven't seen her since this trip.

| The Hilltop Motel and some kind of Camp Grounds sign. | An ugly photo of me with a goddamn chin beard (shaved the next day and grown just as an experiment), with my grandpa and grandma Schnabel, at their home in Aberdeen, SD. | Ryno has a chat with grandpa Tex about the state of things in this world we're livin' in. |

| A shot I took of a page in grandpa Tex's photo album, paying tribute to a couple great rigs of the past. He's a truck driver. | Here we are at Lyric Bowling Alley in Selby(?) South Dakota. Great small-town alley with 6 lanes. The one in Ashley, ND was equally cute but even smaller; it only had four lanes! | Exterior shot of the Lyric with weird silhouette sign and classic 70s/80s molded plastic sign with clip art. |

| Me rolling a strike to be sure, Lyric Bowling Alley. | Ryno lets a dynamic roll go while townsfolk can only stare in disbelief at his grace and his form. | South Dakota has a serious problem with animal rights; there are countless signs AGAINST animal activists in the state. There are a lot of fur farms there and they're defensive/scared that they're going to go out of business. The fuckers should be scared. |

| Back at the Lyric Lanes, sorry. Great sign showing bowling rates on the cheap. | Farmhand logo on an old hulk of a tractor on my mom and Nick's farm. Amazing logo with the blocky bicep and all. Draplin loves it. | Here's a rare shot of my mom and I (& Ryno) at her farm in Java, South Dakota. She lives 14 miles outside town in the absolute middle of nowhere. The worst part is that it's not even the scenic part of the state, it's REALLY boring. She seems to like it. |

| Detail of stunning brush lettering on the side of a diesel rig on my mom's farm. Wicked lettering, I love it. | Shot of my mom and I in front of a semi truck. They haul shit around with 18-wheelers. They're on about 1,000 acres. That white cylinder in the background right is a gasoline pump that they use for their vehicles. | This is a sign in Aberdeen, SD for the Boston Fern Co. Aberdeen is a nice little town; weird like all towns out there and kind of lonely. |

| Lords & Ladies Beauty Salon, I believe this was also in Aberdeen. | My ugly face inside a flying monkey cutout from the Wizard of Oz-themed park that Ryan and I snuck into (closed for season or something). Brings back memories of Sammy Lane Pirate Cruise! | Unfortunately, Pirate's Cove Exotic Dancers in Aberdeen was closed too, we really wanted to check it out. But here's Ryan posing with the sign anyway. |

| This is some of the most beautiful scenery we saw the whole trip. To say the landscape was featureless would be a gross understatement. | The Norseman Restaurant, somewhere in Minnesota, probably on Hwy. 12. Too lazy to look it up. | Here's Ryan at that kids' fun park with the Wizard of Oz shit; they had a pirate ship and he fit right in behind the cap'n, taking him from behind as usual. |
