a quick holiday update

I've got a few minutes here while I'm waiting for some ink to dry on my holiday cards, nothing like waiting until the last minute, now literally burning the midnight oil as I have been for the last week or so on these cards. They are not a design masterpiece but I believe they will be well-received because the intentions are good even if the execution isn't. I've scaled-back this year, instead of the usual run of 100 or so cards, this is a modest run of only about 65 cards. This means that everyone and their brother is not getting one, mostly family and close friends. For the last 7 years or so I have typically given or sent out 70-90 cards and usually received about 10 in return (most of which were store-bought), so to hell with most people.

This year's card is a tribute to my most precious (and endangered) natural resources, my grandparents. I am a lucky man to be 28 and still have 7 grandparents (3 biological, 3 step-, and 1 great aunt) around to share their stories and enrich my life with their wisdom. Since I am in this rare and enviable position, I figured it would be better to pay homage to them now while they're still alive rather than lament not doing this after they pass. The card isn't finished being printed yet, but here's a photoshop preview of the front panel. (The drawings were all done freehand w/ ink, that's why they all look slightly "off").

If you want one of these cards, now would be a good time to confirm your mailing address via e-mail, though if you're not in my family, you probably don't have much interest a tribute to my various grandparents. Suit yourself.

There's a ton of stuff going on at work right now, crazy-busy. Today I delivered a Stella to Threadless (I had produced and applied a bunch of logo graphics to it in days previous), what a cool company and crew. I got one of their Neopolitan Bonaparte shirts, watch for a link to a gallery of photos of that scooter and more in the coming week or two when I have more time to put one up.

Going home to MI for the Xmas weekend, catching a ride with the brothers Toliusis. Not sure yet how I'm getting back on Monday, if nobody offers a ride I can always go Greyhound or Amtrak.

Finally getting a "normal-temperature respite" after about 2 full weeks of brutal, subnormal, below-freezing temperatures. Fuck winter, the next place I move better be warmer. Makes life real ugly sometimes when you're up against that cold, I don't know why the homeless don't try to migrate south for the winter, I'd sure as hell hop on the Orange Blossom Special or something for a few months, spend some time down in the Ozarks or Cajun Country.

I've been going on various dates for the last few months and was recently introduced to a girl by a coworker, she's a graphic designer too. I don't want to jinx it but I think she's very cool (and a real beauty too!). We'll see where it goes.

Spent some quality time with my old friend William Rivas-Rivas while he was in town for work. Always a real pleasure to see that guy, one of my all-time favorite people. William reminds me a lot of Eric Ogaz in some ways. I tried to call Eric at his parents' number recently (after 4-5 years of no contact) but was met with suspicion by his (father?), so I left my name and number but don't imagine I'll get a call back. Eric: if you're out there and alive, I'd love to hear from you, I miss you awfully and think about you all the time (lots of us do). You are a king among men, come out of hiding and let's catch up. I'll still send a holiday card to your parents' house like always, I hope it gets to you.

Anyway, just wanted to offer a shallow update before the holiday, I don't believe in Christ but Merry Christmas nonetheless, I hope you get lots of hot, sexy kisses under the mistletoe and that your eggnog is vegan.

Season's Holidays,
PJ

Happy X-Mas and Merry New Year!!! And Chanaka, Kwanzaa, 3 Kings day, Boxing day, and any other friggin denominational cult you're a part of. :-D

Hope 2006 brings you great advances in the areas of love, friendship, veganism and creativity! And yeah, if you have one to spare I'd like a holiday card about your kin, so send it to my Cali address.

In the meantime stay warm!

Man, that's an early version of the Jesus painting. I wish I had a more finalized version to provide you with. Very rough.
