The biggest news of the last month is that Vanessa and I are no longer a couple, we've mutually agreed that our love relationship wasn't the healthiest and that we're much better off as really good friends, and for the time being, roommates. This may sound like sad news to some, but really it's for the best. She's a fine young woman and I've learned many good things from her, and hopefully the feeling is mutual despite our differences. I don't want a really serious relationship and it will be nice to have a break from that. I think in the few days since we've come to this conclusion we've gotten along really well because the relationship weirdness is removed from the equation. This means that we're both "on the market," so feel free to submit your credentials to either of us for consideration.
Now that I'm not in a relationship anymore, I'll also entertain job offers from other US cities or abroad. I'm employed fairly happily now, but I love to travel and would like the opportunity to live/work somewhere new.
In other news, I celebrated my goddamn 28th birthday last week, BFD. I'm not a big fan of birthdays, and fortunately this one came and went without a lot of fanfare. A couple good meals, a few nice presents and that's about the size of it. Got The Encyclopedia of Chicago from Vanessa, a nice book about Johnny Cash from Ryan, and a vintage Big Boy figurine from my pops.
Took a long scooter trip, my longest ever, from Chicago to Minneapolis with Big Rye and Silent Ron. After some initial scooter problems, it took us 12 or 13 hours to travel the 440 miles. Took highway 14 from Chicago through Madison and west to LaCrosse, then joined Highway 61 and took that alongside the Mississippi/St Croix rivers. A very beautiful (if exhausting) drive on the scooter. I got the medal for Furthest Ridden, having gone a few miles farther than Ron or Rye and on a much sketchier machine (they were on a Ninja 250 motorcycle and an ET4 Vespa, respectively). Spent some quality time with Ryan and his pretty lady Melissa, caught a Brother and Sister show and got to see the brilliant Michael Gaughan. Always a pleasure to be in Minneapolis.
Been going on some good rides with Patrick and other local scooterists on Wednesday evenings. Speaking of scooters, we're selling Vanessa's Honda Metropolitan, so if you're interested, let me know ASAP because deals like these won't last long. My Ramblin' Man scooter should has been promised to be back from the painter's "before month's end," we'll see if that happens. He's had it over a year and I'm not holding my breath...But I can't wait to have it back and put it all back together.
Saw the new Jim Jarmusch movie Broken Flowers last night, it had some beautiful settings and moments but was a little disappointing overall, a bit heavy-handed in parts and I didn't care for the ending. Good Ethiopian music though.
