Back from India

Sorry it's taken me almost a week to pull the photos together, color-correct them and add captions. It was a fantastic trip full of great sights, good (and cheap) food, lots of scooters, and memories to last a lifetime. There were also some sad and shocking things there, but we fully expected that given the population density and level of poverty. Many thanks to Phil, Abhi, Rajneesh and the gentlemen at LML for all their kindness, help and time; it really made our trip amazing.

I may do a separate feature just of scooters in India, but for now the photos are all just mixed in. We brought back about 650 photos, I've posted around 400 here and have 100 or so posted of our tour of the LML factory, (absolutely AMAZING and inspiring stuff for any scooterist) on the Genuine Scooters website.

Here they are, Photos from our Trip to India. There's a lot of narration and explanation in there...I may give a more extended entry about the trip soon as I have more time, but I have to run to work now... You can click on the thumbnails to see larger versions (800 pixels wide or tall). The quality suffers a bit in some for having to shoot at 400 film-speed equivalent in low light/no flash conditions or while moving. I also quickly discovered that I needed to shoot lower-quality images if I was going to fit 2 weeks of this very photogenic country on my 448 megabytes worth of camera memory...so most of them had a maximum dimension of 1200 pixels or so.

Great pictures. I love all your scooter pictures, especially the 4 up. My favorite is the barber shop poster. Did you get your hair cut at the big boss? The food was good throughout? What a great trip!

PJ -

Amazing, simply amazing.

Lots of triggers for memories of Malaysia - the amount of scooters, rougher parts of the city, etc.

And the food! I'm so craving Indian right now.

Thanks for posting those.

Glad you both had a good time.

Holy Hindi! Great stuff.

Fucking love the Simonson poster. Soooooo jealous. Why him? He's a dick. The DDC needs a poster crafted by that wizard too.

I got hungry looking at the food shots, as you know how I have a taste for that cray-zeeee Indian grub. Yum.

Masterful sign work over there. I give up.

I'm in Zurich sipping a cold coke out of a glass bottle, in heaven.

Lots of nice type around here, modern of course.

See ya.

Draplin,
Don't worry, that sign wizard had something in store for the DDC too. If you're still in Zurich, it should be waiting for you when you get back to the states... Yours even has a few illustrations on it.

Getting back from a long haul is always hard on a guy. Dirty laundry, junk mail, a mountain of bills, emails, messages, this/that...

But this time around, you lessened the blow with that banner.

Man, I'm forever grateful.

Can't believe how amazing it is. I mean, it could say, "The DDC sucks horse dick for a living." and I'd still love it.

And that gee-tar? Wow.

Thanks for thinking of me so far away...

WOW!!!!!

I'm sooooooo envious of your trip and it looks like you had a grand time. I love Indian food!!! hey, did you order from White Castle while you were out there?!

(j/k)

The barber shop poster was dope.......reminds me of some spots back in Harlem. Yeah shanti towns are worldwide, but they're soon of the most generous people you'll ever meet. Awesome pics PJ! You should work for National Geographic someday.....
