Went down to Virginia (Norfolk, to be exact) for 4 days to attend Ken Penn's wedding and revisit some dear old friends and workmates. I inexplicably DIDN'T take photos of a lot of people or the wedding, but I DID get quite a few great shots of Winnie Wesley, as well as some good ones of signage in rural SE VA and Richmond.
It was wonderful to be back for a visit, I really miss a lot of people there and apologize to anyone I didn't get to see because of time/schedule constraints. PETA is doing excellent work and I'm so proud of how they've grown just in the two years since I left. I'd like to think that I'll end up working with them again someday, maybe not living in Norfolk, but somehow. Good people.
Big, big thanks to Robyn and Tal for being such saintly hosts, picking us up at the airport, giving us a (really fast Rally 200) scooter to use while there, as well as Robyn's truck to drive to Richmond on the rainy day, Tal for making us an incredible gourmet dinner, Winnie for all the "tough love" and photos, Josie for all the kisses, Ken and Melinda for inviting us to their beautiful (and well-appointed, food-wise) wedding, Jean, Matt and Cholly for joining us at the Ghent Inn, and everyone else who we got to see and spend time with.
Anyway, here are the photos, I posted 90 of the 120 or so that I took. Hope you enjoy them.
Posted by pj at May 6, 2004 09:19 PMDamn VA looks interesting. Marta and I were just talking about VA today. We were wondering what it looked like and I reminded her that you lived there for some time. Now I can point some photos her way. Nice.
Posted by: Naz "Big Travel Itch" Hamid at May 7, 2004 12:09 AMNaz, these photos aren't a great representation of the state, if I was going for that there'd have to be a lot more nature photos, beaches, swamps, little inlets and riverways, and front porches. Glad you enjoyed 'em though!

Posted by: matt partridge at May 11, 2004 03:06 PMhey, boyfriend. you should really make the monthly update this weekend - rally or no rally. i know you and i are getting overly familiar with the recluse in us, but "the people" demand more. an age is ending - say goodbye.
Posted by: vanessa at June 4, 2004 05:13 PMMaybe on Sunday, love...I've been working on the cookbook tonight and must now go to the transvestite bar for the start of the scooter rally. Tomorrow I have to get my ass in gear and ride to Rockford, for a night that is sure to include camping and teabagging. I will try to make a report/update on Sunday when I get back.
ps-the unthinkable has happened...my mom "has the internet" now, so watch out...
