I realize that I've probably pissed-away most of my "readership" on this site, due to increasingly more sporadic updates and the stripped-down, apathetic "new" front page. This sort of bothers me, but I'd be lying if I said it really bothered me. A lot of the former fervor in updating was born of my own boredom and loneliness, and the e-mails and comments I'd receive lifted my spirits and fed my ego...but now I am living in different times, where I find myself much more preoccupied with life away from the computer monitor. That is a healthy and liberating fact, and I have no regrets about it. I've toyed with the idea of taking the entire site down, as pitifully out-of-date as it is, but I think at least a couple facets of it have some worth greater than the angst-ridden, banal "blog" updates (esp. sign photos and vegan food photos), so I will continue to pay my hosting bill (for now) and update occasionally if I have time, am bored, or actually have something compelling to say. Please know that I am in excellent health and better spirits than I've been at any point in recent history, with many thanks to one very inspiring, generous, intelligent, strong and lovely young woman in particular.
Just to make this a bit more entertaining, here are some links that you should check out:
James Howard Kunstler, a man close to my own heart with his scathing observations of American culture, architecture, urban planning, etc. His site is a bit of a trainwreck, but there's some great stuff buried there.
Longmont Potion Castle, a collection of prank calls and videos, some of which are pretty damn good. I especially recommend "evergreen motel," "process some wasps," and "dirk funk original" under audio, and most of the videos.
Lost Indiana is a site that deals with some pretty sad ruins my least-favorite state. Lots of good, lonely stuff in there, worth a look.
