Had a fantastic weekend despite the chilly temperatures. Good food (ethiopian, pick-me-up, victory's banner), good company, good conversations, good shopping, productivity, lots of walking, etc. Got a nice new outfit (think "backup dancer for C+C Music Factory, ca. 1991") for a wedding that I'm going to in a couple of weeks. Saw R.E.M. in concert on Friday with my cousin Chris, who was in town and had an extra ticket. I'm not a fan, but it was a free concert, in a venue I'd never seen before (United Center, home of the Bulls and Blackhawks) and time spent with a long-lost relative, so we went. Interesting crowd...mostly past-their-prime, many somewhat nerdy, many well-to-do. Beautiful stage design and a couple of good songs (esp. Night Swimming) made it worth the while.
FINALLY picked up the long-anticipated Misfits boxed set, and it fucking rules. So many good songs that I didn't have previously, along with a bunch of tired old standbys that used to be good until I played them to death as a teenager. I'll wait a while longer to post Halloweeen, as the holiday draws nearer, but that's near the top of my list, as are the creepy Casio-keyboardy versions of Cough Cool and She from 1977, Last Caress, We Bite, Theme for a Jackal, and Hybrid Moments. I paid too much for it, but I couldn't wait any longer, and it brought me much satisfaction. Good stuff.

Is this a new boxed set? I bought the coffin one a quite awhile ago. At least 5 years I think. It was expensive too! Over $100 Cdn. Is this the same one?
Posted by: Ida at September 30, 2003 01:50 AMYes, it's the same one in the coffin. I know it's been out for a long time, I just hadn't ever gotten around to picking it up... I paid about 70 USD for it; now I see I could've gotten it cheaper on Amazon, but it doesn't really matter, because I love it.

Did y'all get to see the Misfits back in August? I think they played a week after my visit. I know it's not REALLY the same as the original, but they still put on a great fun show. I was looking forward to seeing Balzac on that tour (their first North American tour) but they never made a Toronto date. :(
Posted by: Ida at October 2, 2003 05:24 PMNo, I didn't see the Misfits here. I did however see Danzig last year before I moved away from Norfolk, and Glenn was as intense, buff, and crooning as ever. Not as much a Danzig fan, but certainly enjoy many of their less "metal hot licks" songs.
Posted by: Samhain Chmiel at October 2, 2003 05:41 PMCouldn't think of a cool Misfitsesque name to call myself. *sigh*
Oh... yeah. I'm not a big Danzig fan either (with the exception of a few songs like "Mother").
Anyway, it's an awesome box set!
