I'm sorry

I sort of withdrew from the land of web-hoggers for a time. Not much to say that my audience would care to read. Besides, my weblog has been grazing too much in the grass of "bad teenage journal" and lacked the cohesion necessary to remain interesting to more than about 9 people. I know that folks mostly liked it for the pictures anyway, which, given Movable Type's shitty interface for the Mac, there will be less and less of, because I'm too lazy to hand-code a bunch of fucking URLs so you can see what I ate for breakfast. For the interested few, I will however continue to sporadically add vegan food photos to the disorganized and severely-lacking vegan food section.

I am traveling by scooter to Michigan this weekend and will stay until Monday afternoon. Looking forward to seeing family and friends there, and also to getting the hell out of the city for a bit. I've already got more than 500 miles on the new scooter engine and am anxious to open it up (now that the speedometer is fixed and the engine is broken-in) and see how goddamn fast it will go. Probably not fast enough.

Went to a Vegan Meetup in the midday and saw coworker Liz perform in some "modern dance" in the evening on Saturday. Both were fantastic. Much respect to Liz for her skills in both dancing and costume-making for this production.

Also, it's been confirmed that I am moving at the end of August, sharing a place with Heather, a girl I first met at a Vegan Meetup. She has a nice apartment with a good amount of space, a walk-in pantry, a work room for craft-y projects, a small back balcony, and plenty of breezy windows and perches for the cats. The neighborhood isn't the greatest in Chicago, but it's not any worse than where I live now, and even closer to work and the El. Legend has it that Heather is an excellent cook, and I look forward to being both test subject and co-conspirator in all things vegan cooking. I think she (and having a legitimate kitchen) will inspire me to try my hand at cooking a lot more often, something I've sorely neglected this last year. Should be excellent.

Finally, since I haven't done anything with sign photos in months, here's a gem that my mom could've probably seen from her window a few doors down growing up in Chicago on North Avenue in the 1960's. Humboldt Park is a neighborhood full of good signs, but this one in particular called my name and I had to pull over and snap it. I give you Roeser's Bakery.

I like the Roeser's sign, very colourful. Good composition. Was that on a rainy day? This past Sunday?

You're back! What a beautiful cat you have. Good to hear from you again!

wow... someone must have talked you down off your ledge. nice to see you're back in the proverbial saddle, and finally giving tatsu the coverage he deserves. that beast.

so when are you gonna be moved in? JR and i are still planning to come out. just let me know when is the best for you.

Tatsu needs to be displayed in his full beauty, and not just in 4-colour grainy gif action. Also, what's that crane-needle thing near his head?

Hi! It was nice meeting you at the meetup on the weekend. :)

Naz, the shot was taken on sunday, rainy sunday, and the thing near Tatsu's head is a play toy called the "Cat Dancer" or something. Part of the cuteness of the shot may have been lost in translation, but he's resting his head on it in a sleepy show of victory.

Matt: goddamn ye, when are you guys thinking of coming? This month would've been better, since I have my own place now but will soon have a roommate and less "private" space for Jean to walk around in his underwear in...

Ida, it was great to meet you too! Hope you had fun in Chicago, and I will look you up if I am able to visit Toronto during the coming year.

I had a lot of fun in Chicago but it was too short a trip! The food there is awesome. :)

I think Jen and Kelly might be driving up to visit sometime in the next few months. At least I hope they will be. You should totally hitch a ride with them!

Damn, that Roeser's had TWO hideos, bulbous type treatments. I'm surprise Emigre hasn't traced the characters in the italic version on bottom and released a font of the same name.

Hope the trip for family did you some good PJ. Like you, being in another state away from the kinfolk makes me miss them. Latest news here- I was asked and accepted to being a Godfather, so I have extended family of sorts here.

Bliss,
